Save for war, there is not a single day in Malaysia which could be as dark and demoralising as 4 June 2008.
I was driving back from work, at 6.00pm, caught in a untypical jam, which gets worse hundreds of meters away from every single petrol station. First sign of post petrol hike announcement.
I saw a car which has broken down by the side of the road. My sympathy goes out to the owner. Imagine being hit by a double whammy today (actually a triple whammy if you like to add the hike in electricity tariff).
Other times, I would be irritated if people attempt to abruptly cut into my lane, but I feel a certain solidarity with other road users today that I let the bloody car pass uneventfully. With some horn for his desserts of course.
Some drivers lost they patience, but I couldn't tell if they are like that all the time or nerves are just especially sensitive today. Obviously, its not a good time to test their patience when the petrol price shoot up to rm2.70 per liter.
This govt lies again when it said that petrol prices will only be revised in August. I shudder to think how the government would expect mamak stalls not to raise the price of roti canai or teh tarik, the coffee shops not to raise the price of teh oh or noodles, or school buses not to raise their fees, for logistics company not to raise their rates.. How they would expect everyone to be tolerant except themselves when they are still flying around or drive big cc cars. At 40% increase, even the price of the toilet paper will go up. Yet they will do the same. As it is, they were trying to manage the fear of inflation last night, saying it will only go up about 5-6% this year. Think: is it possible for fuel price to go up 40$, electricity rate to go up 20% and other costs to go up and expect our inflationary rate to be at only 10%?
Never has a government decision struck so much pain into the hearts of the rakyat. This is truly a time for the rakyat to rise to the occasion regardless of political affiliation and get the government to fully account for its actions.
So dear readers, remember this dark dark Wednesday. This govt lies again when it said that petrol prices will only be revised in August.
Im sorry its been such a boring discussion in todays post. I just cant help but to think what is actually our gomen do all these while. Wheres all the MBs. Malaysia Boleh? Way to go!
